At the age of 13, Sebastien was already walking in the alleys of FIAC in Paris with his mother and Jean-Michel Raingeard, who was to become one of his mentors in the art world. He is now president of the Friends of Museum Association in France. With no doubt, this forged his strong passion and taste for art from a very early age. At that time, he was offered his first artwork, a wonderful drawing by an iconic Postmodern artist, still cherished in his art collection today.

Sebastien was gifted in mathematics and embarked on a long studying journey, graduating from one of the Top Engineering Schools in France, Ecole des Mines de Paris. This is where he discovered another passion for finance and economics. After a master of science degree in accounting and finance obtained from the London School of Economics, he started his career in the corporate world, in management control, at AXA Group, and investment banking (Mergers and Acquisitions at Goldman Sachs). While at Goldman Sachs, he learnt how to advise clients at the highest level with the highest standards, and he started developing his strong passion for the arts, collecting, travelling, and meeting artists and art professionals.

Soon, he discovered the art world was built on a strange dilemma. It seems to be easily accessible to all. Anybody can go into a museum and purchase in a gallery or in an art fair, but it requires a strong expertise to purchase the right works at the right price. Also, he discovered art could make our world a better world, the immense pleasure of collecting art and sharing art with friends, family, or even strangers. That is when Sebastien decided to leave investment banking for art advising.

Obviously, a mind-blowing exhibit of Modigliani works in Palais du Luxembourg in France in 2003 and The Basquiat retrospect in the Brooklyn Museum were important determinants, as well. Long-time art enthusiast and experienced art collector, he is the founder of SL ART ADVISOR and MoonStar Fine Arts Advisors, an independent art consulting agency located both in Miami and Paris, with partners in Latin-America and Asia, trusted advisor to private collectors and various institutions all over the world.

"Being an art advisor is for me the dream job! I am not a dealer, I am not a gallery owner, I have no inventory, nothing for sale, I am building long-term trust relationships with my clients, helping them set-up the best strategy according to their objectives and budgets. I put all my expertise, my knowledge, my network at the service of my clients; being independent with no vested interest in any transaction allows me to truly advise my clients"

Because art is also about giving back to the community and growing together, Sebastien spends a lot of time working on non-profit projects. After he joined the board in 2014, he became, in 2016, the first foreign national ever to be elected chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arts and Business Council in Miami, the South Florida Chapter of Americans for the Arts, one of the longest standing non-profit arts organizations in Miami, which has been nurturing the creative ecosystem for the past thirty years.

Sebastien also sits on the Creative and Design Committee of the Beacon Council. He is the regional representative of the Continental Europe of the Art Fund Association and serves on its Best Practices Committee. He is the strategic art advisor of the Institut Van Gogh, in Auvers-sur-Oise, of the AccorHotels group (Sofitel and Pullman brands), and of the Barnes Luxury Real Estate. He is also the urban art specialist for the leading auction house in Miami and the Fine Art Auction Miami, the special curator of France Pavilion, and an art consultant for leading art galleries in Miami, NYC, LA, and Bogota.

Sebastien Laboureau has been recently chosen as an art advisor for the Sagamore Hotel, the sixteen-year-old art hotel in South Beach, under new ownership. "Building an ambitious art programming, encompassing all art forms, visual arts, videos, fashion, music, with a public service mission for the wide public is a wonderful opportunity of a lifetime."

Because Sebastien remained independent and has amassed considerable knowledge and expertise in the art market, he became a respected expert. He is a keynote speaker for various private banks (Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, Northern Trust, Credit Agricole Indosuez, etc.), family offices, art fairs, and public institutions, where he gives lectures and conferences on the art market and selected art history topics. He specializes in the topics of art and finance, art investment, pop art, urban art, and any topics related to the secondary market. Sebastien Laboureau, as a street art expert, has been most recently featured in USA Today for his selection of the "10 Best: Cities to See Street Art." He has been interviewed by many major international press outlets such as the NY Times, the Wall Street Journal, Le Figaro, BBC News, CBS 4, ARTE, and many more.
